The Sky Is Yours

Just like that ‘normal life’ has started again. The summer of love has slowly proceeded into a reality of shorter and darker days, but this late summer has also granted us some very bright and lovely hours, filled with sunshine and warmth.

During the summer holidays I’ve had plenty of time to read, listen to new music, go out for a cup of coffee with friends and watch a documentary. Since I started a new study however, I have had to give up on some of that free time.

But even though I now don’t have as much time to bingewatch a new Netflix-series or finish a novel, I would still love to get some new book-, film-, music- and podcasttips. Because I’m super curious about what has made you tick during the past months.

I would love to start this upcoming fashion-season with some new inspiration and you could help me with this! What was your favourite book? What art has inspired you? Have you learned to cook a new dish? I would love to hear all about it. And since I firmly believe that ‘you get what you give’: here are some of my tips to you:

.
 De sneeuwpanter – Sylvain Tesson
This beautiful book by the French writer Sylvain Tesson has – as far as I know – not (yet) been translated in English. So this is a tip for my Dutch readers. It’s a book about the great significance of nature and it has given me a broader view of the world and made me realize – again – how life should not just only be about looks, Instagram and likes. And especially when you work in fashion, this is a very important lesson.
Een klein leven – Hanya Yanagihara
This book ‘A little life’ by American writer Hanya Yanigihara has been brought to theatres and that is no surprise. This book about four friends who try to find a way through living in New York teaches not only something about friendship, but eventually teaches the readers something about themselves. It’s the kind of book that takes you a couple of days to process.
L’Arc de Triomphe – Wrapped
Art triumphs over bureaucracy, wrote a Dutch newspaper about this work of art by Christo. He has had a long life dream to wrap the Arc de Triomphe. It reminds me of this quote: life is but a dream. Sometimes you have to dream big to make a lifelong dream –  of wrapping one of France’s most well-known buildings – come true.

And speaking of France: this is the country where I spent the holidays. Here I met up with fellow Dutchie Anouk, who I have known online for quite a while, but never met in real life. She lives in Groningen, which is pretty far away from where I live, but we discovered we were really close by in France. We met up and when she posted one of my bags on Instagram later, I immediately sold out! People from all over the world placed orders, for which I’m really grateful

I love how life can just take a turn when you meet inspiring new people. This is the reason I started blogging about the things that inspire me. Because the world – also online – is a more beautiful place when we spread love.

Stay tuned…
Love,
Yvette
